How to write a successful dental blog

Posted on 9/13/2016 by Wendy Hensley, Marketing Manager
Successful BloggingYou've heard us talk about the benefits of blogging (SEO, patient education, social media implications, etc.) in many posts before but perhaps the task seems a bit overwhelming to you right now. Here are a few tips to keep in mind that can help you write successful posts.

Learn how blogs impact your SEO.

Be Yourself.

The biggest key to writing a successful blog is to be personable. Write as if you're talking one-on-one with a potential patient. Don't be stiff and generic like a newspaper article. Blogs were created to be more interactive and informal so it's a great chance for you to find your voice and use it!

Use Links.

Link to other blogs, websites, or even back to you own website. This can help drive traffic and give you more SEO traction in the long run.

Use Images.

A picture is worth a 1000 words, right? Pictures help engage and inform your patients. Show your office and talk about your staff, show an example of a smile makeover, or snap a picture of your new xray machine and tell your patients how this new technology will impact them.

Be Responsive.

If someone comments on your blog, make sure you respond back to them. Even posting "Thanks for reading our blog" is a great way to show your readers you care about their time and comment.

Post to Social Media.

Be sure to cross post your blogs to your social media sites. Post to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. This allows people to find your blog and share them with their friends too. This traffic will help your SEO rankings as well.

Set Realistic Goals.

Don't attempt to blog more than you have time and topic to do. If you set a goal of blogging every day, you’ll likely not be able to stay on top of the project. Perhaps once a week is a great place to start. You know your schedule better than anyone though so just be realistic about your ability so that you can follow through.

Write for the Web.

Long paragraphs are very difficult for users to read on computer or mobile screens. Although there's no overall length requirement for your blog, it's a good idea to keep your paragraphs to 3-4 sentences. Remember to also keep your post important information at the start of the paragraph. That way if a read only gets to the first sentence in your paragraph, they will walk away knowing what you wanted them to take away.

Try New Things. Have Fun!

Getting stuck in a rut will take the fun out of blogging. So don't be afraid to try new things! Infographics, a few highlights about your staff, guest blogs from a charity you support, etc. can be great ways to encourage creativity and fun that will keep patients coming back to read your content.
