If you have a business, whether you have an online presence or not, you will likely have reviews written about you. That likelihood increases for healthcare providers such as dentists. How do you manage that online reputation, and why does it matter that you do? Online users trust reviews and recommendations more than they trust advertising, so having positive reviews written about you does matter. Facebook recently added a star-rating system that gives patients a way to review their experience with you, and according to Facebook, star ratings make your business eligible to appear in the newsfeed. Just like Google has a complex algorithm to determine how websites rank for a search result, Facebook also has an algorithm that determines where your post will end up in the newsfeed, if at all. Their algorithm is called EdgeRank, and it determines which stories appear in each user's newsfeed. By having star ratings, and encouraging interaction on your Facebook page with your patients, you are more likely to actually show up in their newsfeed as an engaging business page. Similar to any other review that you receive, whether on Yelp, Google, or Angie's List, you'll want to immediately reply to any positive or negative review. Setting Up Review Notifications If you decide to keep the star rating feature on (you do have an option to turn it off in your admin settings), turn on notifications within your page settings so you can reply to reviews in a timely manner. 1. Go to 'settings' in your Admin dashboard. 2. Select 'Get a notification each time there is activity on your Page or an important Page update.' 3. Make sure that all notifications are turned on under 'Edit your notification settings.' 4. Select whether you additionally want an email sent to you each time there is activity on your page.
