2 Things Your Dental Office Should Do on Facebook Now That the Newsfeed Has Changed

Facebook recently overhauled the newsfeed changing how it ranks posts, videos and photos that appear and the order they appear for Facebook users. Are you ready for the change?

They will now show posts and information from your friends and family first. Public and brand content will appear after other content.

In a Facebook post, Mark Zuckerburg, founder of Facebook said, "Based on this, we're making a major change to how we build Facebook. I'm changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions."

While this might be good news from a user standpoint, for offices trying to reach new patients, this can be problematic.

1) Create content that sparks conversation

It's no longer good to just post content and walk away. Instead, you need to post content that will encourage interaction and commentary. Pose questions that engage with your base or articles that will spark discussion.

2) Have a community manager

Because the emphasis is on interaction, it's key to have someone designated as your community manager. Just as you should be responding to all your online reviews, you need to now respond to your Facebook comments. This will further the discussion and encourage people to keep coming back to your posts.

To be successful on Facebook, you need to dedicate time and energy to your strategy. A few posts a year won't do much to boost your community. But creating interactive, engaging, conversational posts will go far to build community with your existing users as well as reach new patients.
